Original Items: Only One Lot Available. This is a fantastic assortment of Imperial German items that were brought home by a US Soldier after WWI. Private Charles Portacalas served with both the 23rd and 9th Infantry Regiments of the 2nd Infantry Division during the WWI era. We found a picture of him on ancestry, shown in the photographs but not part of the grouping. A war trophy is an item taken during warfare by an invading force. Common war trophies include flags, weapons, vehicles, art and personal belongings of an enemy soldier.
The lot includes:
- Functional Swiss Made “Trench” Watch: The watch is in fantastic condition given the age and the environment in which the watch was worn. The watch still holds time and the face is still crystal clear with easy to read numbers.
- Carved Bone Trench Whistle: The whistle itself is carved from bone, and is the typical military pattern that could have been issued or purchased. It is complete, and shows only normal slight wear from handling and use.
- Imperial German Officer Sword Knot: The sword knot is in wonderful condition with minor fraying present. The silver colors are retained very well with only minimal loss and flaking present.
- Leather Wallet with Contents: The contents of the wallet features (12) photos/postcards with writing on the back. Other items featured are (5) German Mark bills and a small blue pencil.
A lovely grouping ready for further research and display.
